Distancing rules, event bans, two-household recommendations: Covid-19 is making our everyday lives more difficult - and in 2020 it meant the end for the Tree Planting Days at NIKIN. The NIKIN family was determined that this should not happen again in 2021. The motivated team made every effort to ensure that a Tree Planting Day could be held this year. But how, when everyone's health is the top priority? With an online version.
Smoking heads at NIKIN
The NIKIN family invested a lot of thought, beads of sweat and meetings in planning the Online Tree Planting Day. After all, a gathering of people or physical contact had to be avoided at all costs. Thanks to modern technology, this is now possible. Participants from Switzerland and southern Germany received CO2-neutral trees sent to their homes. There, in their own gardens, they planted their Tree. They received the instructions by e-mail. And to create a sense of togetherness, each Tree Planter received a TreeShirt. Participants were also allowed to send photos and videos of their newly planted trees to NIKIN . These impressions were compiled into an aftermovie. The individually planted trees were joined together - just like a forest.
Spruces, larches, firs and oaks
The participants were each sent a seedling home. In Switzerland, pecan trees, silver firs and European larches were planted. In southern Germany, red spruce and swamp oak were planted. In total, the Online Tree Planting Day enriched the world with 537 trees. We will be happy to calculate how this figure is made up:
- 180 participants have registered for the Online Tree Planting Day. 23 live in southern Germany, 157 in Switzerland. They all planted one Tree each in their garden, i.e. 180 trees.
- We are doubling this number with a donation to One Tree Planted. For every Tree planted by a participant on Online Tree Planting Day, we will plant another one with One Tree Planted. This means another 180 trees will be planted.
- In addition, all participants received a TreeShirt. As one Tree is planted for each TreeShirt, a further 177 trees are added. Why 177 when 180 people took part? Three participants are NIKIN employees who planted a Tree in their garden. They already have several TreeShirts in their wardrobe from other events and employee gifts, which is why they didn't need a TreeShirt for the Online Tree Planting Day.
Symbolic effect
Nothing can replace the exuberant atmosphere, the sense of togetherness and the impressions of the wonderful natural surroundings at our physical Tree Planting Days. With the online version, however, we want to draw attention to the important issue of reforestation. It is also important to us to put a smile on the faces of our community in these difficult times.
