Discover our Natural Dye Collection

Sustainability is very versatile, for our Natural Dye Collection we've tried something that you've probably never seen before. The TreeShirts and TreeShopper in this limited edition capsule collection are dyed in a completely natural way, using food waste from Portuguese coffee, olive and onion production. This collection shows that nature itself provides a wide range of beautiful colors and that food waste can be creatively reused. The natural colors are extracted from ground coffee beans, pressed olives or peeled onion skins in an environmentally friendly and chemical-free process and transferred to our products. Of course, only the colors are transferred, not the smells.

TreeShopper Natural Dye

The practical and sustainable bag made from organic cotton is dyed with the natural colors from the outer layer of the onion skin. This layer, which often comes off automatically during transportation and sorting, is collected in Portugal and reused for dyeing fabric.

How our products are naturally colored

  • The natural colors are obtained from organic waste from Portuguese coffee, olive and onion production, which is collected instead of simply being disposed of.
  • The quality of the food scraps collected is checked and unusable waste is sorted out.
  • In an environmentally friendly technical process, the color pigments are released from the cellulose and used for the natural dyeing of textiles, leaving only an organic and compostable residue.
  • Our partner, Minority Denim, uses no chemicals at all for the natural dyeing process.
  • The water used for the dyeing process can be reused to irrigate the fields without treatment (purification). This is in contrast to conventional dyeing methods, where the water has to be treated afterwards. The excess organic waste is compostable.
  • The organic waste and water from the dyeing process flow back into nature and the circle closes.

WASH CARE INSTRUCTIONS

The products of the Natural Dye Collection products are dyed with colors made from natural raw materials, but to prolong their life and your enjoyment of them to the maximum, you should follow a few care instructions:

  • The products are dyed with a lot of love and care in an artisanal process, but minor irregularities may occur in the dyeing, which are hardly noticeable. But hey, not everything in nature is always perfect and your shirt will be unique.
  • You should wash the TreeShirt Natural Dye at least once before wearing it for the first time, preferably separately and only by hand at a maximum of 30°C.
  • Repeated washing can cause the colors to fade slightly - but you can reduce this with a pH-neutral liquid detergent (the packaging is often labeled "fine" or "sensitive"), and you should also not tumble dry the TreeShirt or leave it to dry in direct sunlight.
