Hot idea: cooking with less electricity

Life without electricity? Unthinkable and simply impossible for all of us. After all, many of the devices we use every day run on electricity - from e-bikes, scooters and cars to smartphones and consumer electronics. It's no different in the kitchen: without stoves and refrigerators, we would quickly look old. But how can electricity consumption and electricity costs be reduced? Here are four tips for saving.

1) Suitable pots and lids

Whether pot or pan: everything you cook with should fit the size of the hob exactly. This also applies to the lids. If they don't close tightly, valuable energy is wasted. You can also save on your household budget when cooking with water. Because less water boils faster. Vegetables, for example, are cooked even if they are only half covered by water. The rest is done automatically by the hot steam.

2) Kettles are clever

Hot water is indispensable - from tea in the morning to pasta for dinner. The best way to do this is with a kettle. It can be used to heat water exactly to the right temperature. It's much quicker than using a pan on the hob, very practical and extremely efficient. Also because a hob needs a lot more electricity and stays hot for a long time.

3) Save dishwasher with

With most dishwashers, you can select eco programs. Although the washing process takes longer than with "normal" programs, it uses less water and less electricity. Quite simply because less energy is needed when water is heated slowly. Cutlery, dishes, glasses, bowls and pans still get sparkling clean. It also pays to only start the dishwasher when it is really full.

4) Unplug devices

Many electrical appliances use energy even when they are switched off. This is also the case in the kitchen, where many electrical appliances are not used regularly. So if you unplug them, you can only benefit - and have more in your wallet at the end of the month to treat yourself to something good.
