Spring will soon be here again: spring is just around the corner, the "hibernation" is coming to an end for humans too and we can finally get out into nature again.
What everyone enjoys...
When the days get longer, the sun shines more often and the air somehow smells different, you are drawn out of the house of your own accord. And nature lovers have the choice between landscaped and "free" nature:
- Excursions to parks and gardens
No matter where you live, there are smaller or larger green spaces, parks or botanical gardens near you. There's a lot going on there in spring - because some trees are already in bloom before the rest of nature puts on its green finery. The early bloomers among the flowers are also already awake - snowdrops, daffodils, hyacinths and tulips vie with each other in the spring flower dress. Fruit trees prepare their blossoms for bees and the fluffy willow catkins cover the branches with their splendor. So: let's get out and about!
- Forests in the near and far surroundings
The awakening of nature can be observed even better in the forest, as carefully and attentively as possible. The returning birds are now making themselves heard and the first green leaves are appearing in the deciduous or mixed forest. You can feel the forest breathing a sigh of relief after the winter. If you are out and about alone or in very small groups, you can simply sit down and relax, take in the scents of the forest, the sounds and the colors. If you are very quiet and patient, there is a good chance of spotting smaller wild animals such as deer going about their "everyday errands".
Planting flowers - when, if not now?
Spring is the time for flowers, and you can bring them into your home. This works particularly well with flower bulbs. The first bulbs can be planted as early as the beginning of February, and if you leave weekly intervals, brightly colored flowers will bloom on your windowsill at intervals until April. Skilled gardeners can also prepare the bulbs for the next winter from summer onwards.
Picnic in the countryside
If the weather permits, simply pack a basket of goodies and head out into the countryside. Find a sunny spot and enjoy a picnic - why not? You can do it however you like. There's almost nothing better for children.
But be careful, springtime is also tick season. The small insects can transmit dangerous diseases - so always wear closed shoes and long pants in the forest. Once back home, it's worth doing a thorough body check.
Springtime cooking
In spring, there are special treats that you can pick yourself or buy fresh. It doesn't always have to be the first strawberries. Wild garlic is also a big hit. From the end of March and into April, the "wild garlic" grows with its distinctive aroma and taste. It not only smells wonderful in the forest, but is also perfect for making fresh pesto or salad. However, if you want to collect it yourself, you should be careful not to confuse the leaves with the highly poisonous lily of the valley. Both plants love the same locations, but wild garlic releases its garlic scent when the leaves are rubbed.
Nature activities with children
Children, who have hardly been able to play outdoors all winter, are even happier than adults when the inviting outdoors opens its doors again. Off they go outside with bicycles, badminton rackets and balls. But a walk in the forest or garden is also fun. Especially if you encourage the little ones to identify flowers, trees and animals.
At home, you can make "profiles" with pictures for birch, beech and co. and then send the children out to find as many trees and plants as possible. Small prizes for the most eager plant detectives? Coloring books with plant motifs or a plant identification book for older children.
There are more than enough opportunities to enjoy spring!
Of course, these are just a few of the many opportunities to finally take a deep breath at the end of winter, have fun and enjoy nature to the full. There are also guided hikes and walks, sometimes especially for families with children, such as those organized by the Alpine Club, sporting activities and cultural events such as concerts, as soon as the weather plays along again. They all have one thing in common - they allow us to consciously enjoy nature!
