Summer in Switzerland: 7 nature excursions for young, old and four-legged friends

It's that time again, the summer vacation is just around the corner. Are you staying in Switzerland this year? Perfect! Because there are a surprising number of nature experiences waiting right on your doorstep. Whether with children, your four-legged friend or as a short break for two: these seven excursion tips will take you to rather unknown places close to nature - ideal for hot summer days. So: Put on your summer outfit, pack your rucksack and head out into the countryside! 

1st Wild and romantic hike in the Val d'Hérens (VS)

A valley straight out of a picture book: the Val d'Hérens in Valais impresses with its originality, quaint villages with wooden houses and spectacular nature. The hike from Evolène to Les Haudères leads over a suspension bridge, through mountain forests and past crystal-clear streams. Picnic spots with fire pits invite you to linger - perfect for a day trip with the family.

2. diving in Lake Cauma near Flims (GR)

The turquoise-colored Lake Cauma is nestled in the Flims forest and is one of the most beautiful swimming lakes in Switzerland. Thanks to shady forest paths, even the walk to the lake is an experience. The paths are also ideal for families with children or four-legged friends. There are sunbathing lawns, a restaurant, boat hire and a bathing jetty on site. It is at its quietest early in the morning or in the evening and the atmosphere is particularly magical.

In the middle of the forest, at lofty heights between the treetops, the Atzmännig forest rope park awaits with various climbing courses. You can choose between easy, sporty or challenging. And while there are special routes for children aged four and over to discover, real challenges await adults. If you still have energy after climbing, you can head straight to the summer toboggan run or take a short hike to nearby Chrüzegg.

4. recharge your batteries in the Gantrisch Nature Park (BE/FR)

Just half an hour from Bern lies the Gantrisch Nature Park, a true natural paradise with rolling hills, tranquil forests and moorland. On the Gantrisch panoramic hike, you can enjoy fantastic views of the Bernese Alps. And if you prefer a more leisurely pace, take a walk on the Gäggersteg, an elevated wooden footbridge through a storm debris area that has developed into a small primeval forest.

All surrounded by wonderful mountain air. The farm is freely accessible and not overcrowded, making it a real insider tip for a relaxing family day out.

6. through the Maggia gorge near Ponte Brolla (TI)

The Maggia Gorge offers an impressive natural spectacle: smooth granite rocks, turquoise water and hidden bathing bays. A hike from Avegno to Ponte Brolla leads along the water, through small forests and past natural bathing spots. Ideal for hot days, especially if you dip your feet in the water from time to time or even jump in completely.

7th Heiligkreuz sensory trail in Entlebuch (LU)

Barefoot over bark mulch, through streams and soft grass: the sensory trail in Heiligkreuz stimulates all the senses and lets you experience nature in a new way. Numerous stations invite you to try out, listen and smell. An ideal excursion for children, but also relaxing for adults. All in the midst of the idyllic landscape of the UNESCO Entlebuch Biosphere.
