Drum roll - today we are officially launching our crowdinvesting campaign! As a community-oriented brand, we are really proud that we can also make you a co-owner. Read this blog to find out how we came up with the idea of crowdinvesting and how you can become part of our success story.
It was 2016 when two former scouts named Nicholas and Robin founded their brand NIKIN with a starting capital of CHF 5,000. Just six years later, NIKIN is a clothing brand known beyond the country's borders. Affectionately known as "die mit de Bäumli", which stands for the logo on the one hand, but also for the fact that NIKIN plants a Tree for every product sold. We are extremely proud that we have been able to plant an incredible 1.9 million trees with our partner organization - and generate annual sales of over CHF 10 million despite the modest size of the company. And we have done this without any external investors.
New Year New NIKIN?
Not quite. But 2022 was the year in which we changed our strategy and now also focus on Retail & B2B. We also had to make an internal decision: Either we stay at a similar size and focus on profitability and Switzerland. Or we need more financial resources to be able to grow next and reach the whole of Europe. To be honest, we have always been driven by pioneering ideas, which is why we decided to go for crowdinvesting. Together with our co-owners, we want to make the fashion industry greener - #treebytree.
What is crowdinvesting?
"Investing", "shares", "finance" - first and foremost, that sounds pretty lazy. We'll explain why it's actually a pretty cool thing. The special thing about crowdinvesting is that it is designed for a broad investor base (a "crowd"). If you want to become a co-owner of NIKIN , you can do so for as little as CHF 375. This makes it a very democratic form of investment, as it is in principle open to everyone, regardless of income. It is important to us that we are transparent and open in our dealings with our co-owners. In addition to all the figures, identification is also an important aspect and we are more than aware of this.
Why is this happening now?
With NIKIN , we have established ourselves as probably the best-known tree planters in Switzerland. Not only because more than every 50th Swiss person has ordered from us, but also thanks to our wide reach on social media and regular sustainability events. In Europe, we generate relevant sales (just under CHF 3 million in 2021) and have 100,000 customers, 80,000 of whom come from Germany alone. We are absolutely convinced that we can establish our vision of making the world a greener place through sustainable fashion throughout Europe. To achieve this, we need the financial resources. When we looked at the question of our further growth and our community advised us to consider crowdinvesting, the answer was quickly obvious.
